How to Reach Chandratal

By Road: The nearest town to Chandratal is Manali, located about 120 km away. The journey involves a drive through the rugged terrain of Spiti Valley.

From Manali, you can take the route via Rohtang Pass, Koksar, and then reach the Chandratal Lake.

The roads leading to Chandratal are rough, so it's recommended to travel in a high-ground clearance vehicle, such as an SUV or a 4x4.

By Trek: If you're an avid trekker, you can also reach the lake on foot. The trek typically takes about 1-2 days, depending on the route you choose.

Best Time to Visit

Summer (June to October): The best time to visit is between June and October when the weather is more stable and the roads are clear of snow. The temperature during this period ranges from 5°C to 15°C during the day and can drop to sub-zero levels at night.

Monsoon (July-August): The monsoon season is less ideal due to the risk of landslides and roadblockages.

Winter (November to April): The region is covered in snow, and most of the roads become impassable. Camping near the lake is also not possible during these months due to the extreme cold.

"Chandratal" translates to "Moon Lake" in Hindi, named for its crescent (moon-like) shape.
